Background:

Completely normal childhood, mother a librarian and father a school teacher. As a child, he would stay with his mother in the library while she worked, where she showed him the proper way to categorize the books. His father on the other hand showed him how reading could be like solving a puzzle, or going on a treasure hunt (corny old man, he was).

He took this and applied it to everything in life as a child, from categorizing and trying to puzzle out shows, food, subjects, and then on to people. However, he found that categorizing/paying attention to people became more bothersome than it was worth. And thus, he started his obsession with books (and films to a lesser extent).

By the time he was 20, he graduated from college early with a degree in library science (after wasting years jumping from random class to random class for the fun of it). He immediately applied to the Llyfrwr Department, and as soon as he got in, he often forgot to step out of the library.

So engrossed was he in his work, that he pretty much didn't notice his promotion up as Head 6 years later. Though, when he was told the reason for that was because the former Head had fell from the top of a ladder during a ladder race and then went into a coma... he made it quite clear that the dumbass who even so much as bumped into him while he was on a ladder would be sharing the same fate as the old Head.

He is never without his hand-held recorder, which he uses to take notes for everything - information from books, films, rumors, gossip, and even to store information about the people around him. Most likely emotionally attached to it. And its three replacements.

As OCD as he is about "his" books, he's more than happy to stay in the library pulling all-nighters. Often has to be reminded to eat or sleep.

Other:
Personality's rather blunt. Most of his actions outside of his job are based on trying to avoid or lessen activities that he sees as being bothersome or unnecessary.

Erik is rather absent minded about most other things which in his mind he categorizes as unimportant, ie: cooking, cleaning, eating, sleeping, human interaction, etc.

This results in him cutting his own hair, for getting it cut by others is too bothersome. (Bowl cut in the most literal of ways - which is why he can sometimes look like jail bait...).

Most preferred method of communication is through sticky notes. Or replaying his hand held recorder to others.

Huh. There was a logical reason why his vision was suddenly blacking out. Really.

Right. Sustenance. Sleep.

Erik tugged off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose before letting his head drop like a brick onto his desk. He knew he should have gone to bed last night, but then again, the new cache of books they had recently received had been much more satisfying to devour.

Never lifting his head up, he rifled through the desk drawers for the bar of candy that he KNEW was around somewhere. The sugar rush should help keep him going for another couple of hours. Or dear gods, at least through trying to get through the newbies. Which was why he had needed the sleep tonight. Last night. Damn.

Ripping open the found candy bar, Erik vaguely wondered if he couldn't just have someone else deal with people for him. As long as he left clear outlines on the 'do's, 'don't's, and the 'I will drop you from a 10 foot ladder if you do this shit to me'... He recorded it as a note to himself.
